Anna Beck Designs is an amazing jewelry collection that is a favorite among some of today's top celebrities, including Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, and Kate Bosworth. Handcrafted on the island of Bali, the pieces are created using an ancient intricate metalworking technique using sterling silver and 18k yellow gold plated. Though she is based in Los Angeles, owner and designer Becky Hosmer travels to Bali several times a year to work on new jewelry designs and to oversee production.

Granulation
Anna Beck Jewelry is well known for labor-intensive handmade jewelry in the ancient technique called granulation, which is the process of fusing tiny metal spheres of silver or gold to a metal surface. It is an ancient technique that produces a beautiful delicate effect. All connections are fused instead of soldered. Fusing involves raising the temperature of the back sheet, the granules, and the wires to be fused, until they melt just enough to permanently adhere to each another. This is a very delicate operation.

Anna Beck Designs was officially established in 2003, although its foundation had been laid years earlier. After graduating from Boston University, designer and owner Becky Hosmer decided to see the world. She traveled extensively through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia, and fell in love with the region. She was fascinated with the art of jewelry making in those countries, particularly the exquisite craftsmanship of the jewelry on the Indonesian island of Bali.

Bali is a stunningly beautiful country that is surrounded by coral reefs and white and black sand beaches, and studded with mountains. The longer Becky spent in the country, the more she developed an intimate connection with the island's people. Becky devoted her remaining time in Bali to studying the craft. She spent time with a variety of jewelry artisans in their workshops, learning as much as she could, and devising a plan to create a line of jewelry that would radiate the essence of Balinese life.

So with little knowledge of the jewelry design business, but lots of hard work and enthusiasm, Becky created the first Anna Beck Collection. She sold her jewelry door to door to boutiques around the United States, and soon her single-minded determination paid off.

Today Becky employs more than 100 silversmiths in Bali, and also manages a team in Los Angeles. She continues to travel to Bali to create new designs and gain new inspiration from the island and people that gave birth to Anna Beck.

Becky Hosmer draws inspiration for Anna Beck from natural elements, whether from the scenic California coastline or on her extensive trips to Southeast Asia, particularly Cambodia, Indonesia and Burma. She designs her jewelry to balance exotic touches with classic sophistication and uncomplicated polish. Each piece is handcrafted and has its own unique quality - just like the people who wear it.
