Goldsmith and Jewelry Designer
Canadian designer Anne Sportun intended to spend her professional life as an archaeologist. Driven by her belief in a universal language of shapes and symbols, she often looked to nature for inspiration. As a jewelry artist, Anne Sportun has found perfection in organic forms, and she subtly translates these forms into her work.
Unabashed White Topaz Ring
Her head-turning white topaz, faceted for maximum impact, presides over a brushed 14k white gold band. Prominent bezel with polished rim. Handmade in Canada.
$1900
I just love her rings. They're so unique. She puts pave-set diamonds into a gold band, or creates disks with asymmetrical sides. She combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with the unconventional. Sparkling gemstones take on an understated elegance that transforms them from special-occasion dazzlers to wear-everyday pleasures.
Sterling Silver Kyanite Cluster Necklace
A cluster of charms is anchored by her showpiece toggle clasp. She complements the iridescence of kyanite with the soft sheen of a white cultured pearl and brushed sterling icicle. Handcrafted. 16"L.
$290
Anne Sportun began experimenting with jewelry in the basement of her childhood home where her father, a high school shop instructor, had a workshop full of tools. When Anne delivered her first wholesale order in 1981 at the age of sixteen, she had no idea she had just started something that would later become her professional career.
Gold & Sapphire Spectrum Ring
Once in a blue moon, nature produces a sapphire of uncommon hue. satin-finished band of 14k yellow gold is sprinkled with a dozen sparkling gems, randomly arranged in a spectrum of pink, yellow, and orange.
$2900
By deferring academic studies in archaeology to enroll in a three year Jewelry Arts Program, Anne followed her passion for jewelry making and consciously embarked on a the path that would lead her to where she is today.
Sportun has only recently made her work available to the international market. She has long been a highly regarded artist in Canada, and has been awarded for her excellence in precious metal work and contemporary design. Based in Toronto, she's been honored with a Canadian postage stamp featuring her hands and rings.
