Fur Fashion and Jewelry Controversies
Filed in archive Jewelry Designers by tammy on June 14, 2006

2006 right now, and they have asked for those of us from the fashion blogosphere to jump in with our opinion concerning the controversy of fur and fashion. At first, I was a little reluctant to talk about this topic here at The Jewelry Weblog, mainly because it didn't seem that related to jewelry to me. (Because, boy oh boy, I sure have an opinion about fur!)
But, then I started thinking about other controversies that surround fashion and jewelry, and I remembered the current jewelry and diamond controversy heating up right now due to the movie The Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. I realized that it does make sense to talk about this sort of thing here.
So here goes - Yes, fur is gorgeous. No one can deny that, but in a world of wonderful textile technology, I am baffled by the medieval idea of killing animals to drape them over our bodies. And that is supposed to be fashion? That is supposed to innovative style?
When you know even the tiniest bit of information about the fur industry, I just can't imagine how anyone can condone it. If you want real innovative fashion, then look to ground-breaking and talented designers such as Stella McCartney. This woman talks the talks and walks the walk, and yet, her clothing, jewelry, and other accessories are fashionable and marketable.
I could go on and rant and rave some more, but basically, I'm of the opinion that fur gets a big "F" in my fashion grade book.
