First, these aren't the roaches that fly around and invade your house. These are Giant Madagascan Hissing roaches, which do absolutely no harm to humans. In fact, they are one of the most commonly kept insects as pets. Second, while I don't agree with treating a living creature as a fashion accessory, this might turn more people on to them as pets. After all, they are much better suited for captivity than hermit crabs (which often suffer slow, miserable deaths from dehydration or chlorine poisoning in captivity). I have two male hissers right now and I adore them. I think they're fine the way they are, no jewels needed. They're easy to take care of, fun to have around (they show a lot of personality for bugs), and are great conversation starters.
