Even poor little rich girls like Jessica Simpson found some bling under her tree this year, though according to this report from The National Ledger, she actually had to wait until New Year's Eve to receive the bauble or baubles in question:

Jessica Simpson may have spent her Christmas celebration in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado with family, but the buxom blonde was off to begin the year 2007 in Gotham. The actress and singer was ringing in the New Year with rumored beau John Mayer in New York City, People Magazine is reporting.

And it appears a jewelry purchase was involved earlier in the weekend.

According to a report from the weekly entertainment magazine, Jess and John arrived together in the Hudson Hotel's VIP room, right after the ball dropped in Time's Square. Just after 2:10 a.m. they held court for about 40 minutes in a sofa nook across the room from Christina aguilera's entourage, which included her husband Jordan Bratman.

The report details that Simpson and Mayer also spent time together in the days leading up to New Year's Eve. They were spotted having dinner at The Mercer Kitchen on Friday, walking around Barneys New York on Saturday.

While at Barneys, the New York Post is reporting that Simpson was spied "eyeing baubles then shrieking in excitement and high-fiving Mayer" as he purchased the gift of bling for her on Saturday morning. The two giggled and danced in front of a glass display case, while Mayer - clad in an army jacket and jeans - laughed and affectionately held Simpson's hands in his own, the paper is reporting.

I'd love to know exactly what he got her. The only really weird thing about this report is the reference to her as a "buxom blonde." First, I don't think anyone who isn't at least a size 8 could be considered remotely buxom. Second, is she really a blonde?
