transit workers decided to strike today. Per a report by CNN: " New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg lashed out at union leaders for "thuggishly" turning their backs on the city, adding the strike could cost the city more than $400 million a day."
National Jeweler reports that jewelry stores were feeling the pinch early in the day:
" As New York hurtled into its first day of a transit strike that shut down city-wide bus and subway travel, jewelers were already feeling the impact of a retail slowdown."
Many stores were missing personnel who had trouble getting to work, and of course, more importantly, shoppers were having trouble getting around as well.
