OMG I so agree with you. I understand that they want to protect the sanctity and copyright of the photos from others who would use them to promote themselves and their store but there should be a way to pull photos easily if you are going to give them coverage.
It's so freaking frustrating that when I am on a roll or it's after hours and they aren't around (and may not answer my email for days), I need images *now*.. not a week from now just because they aren't web savvy enough to get you the images quickly or build a press page where you can get the images easily
my 2 cents.. rant over.

It is indeed the age of the blog, baby. As a fellow fashion blogger (http://fashiontribes.typepad.com/),
I find it mindboggling when anyone trying to sell their wares online gets persnickety about image usage - particularly if they actually want press coverage. Print magazines no longer enjoy the total monopoly & stranglehold they've had for so many years on the flow of info to the fashion-buying public; instead, we bloggers often scoop them, and we are also more likely to promote a cool indie designer...not because we are horsetrading editorial placement for ad dollar, but - gasp - because we actually like their work & want people to know about them.

i think the age of the copyright is going to have to change with "web 2.0" - which is a big adjustment for artists and designers who tend to have a very close guard on their ideas and their work. i say that if you are putting it online, you are putting it out there for everyone. that means more than just viewing pleasure - what's really funny to me is the disclaimers on blogs these days saying "DO NOT COPY or steal, all writing copyright so and so blah blah" and useless huge (and ugly) watermarks that distort images.

the thing is this: if someone is going to rip you off, that's a risk you take putting it out there - and no little sidebar disclaimer is going to stop someone looking to rip you off.

but that risk seems pretty small and shabby compared to the awesome connections online for me. :)

I couldn't agree more! If I want to review a site and I can't easily get images I will just skip right over them. Same thing if there is no way to buy the jewelry online.

there are still a lot of things to be learned about the world of jewelry web marketing like this blogging business. it would be helpful if people behind the jewelry websites would care to understand how blogs can help them promote their site as well as their products. copyrights have just been a sort of security but i think with open communication among bloggers and website owners, the problem should be resolved with less fuss.

I understand your point of view, and I realise a blog (especially a rant) is a 'get it off your chest' spontaneous thing, but you could ask to use an image. If you've got nothing but praise for a particular item I'm sure the owner of the image/jewellery will have no problem allowing you use of the image.
