Jewelry Designer and Metalsmith
Kathleen Lynagh is the creative designer for Kathleen Lynagh Designs. Launched in May 1995, Kathleen began with a line of jewelry based on Mario Botta's architecture of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art building for their Museum Store. Ms. Lynagh has since created several other lines. Most of her work is sculpted from solid wax blocks, cast in metal, then finished by hand.

Silver & Pearl Flower Rings
Hand-carved matte finished sterling silver ring set with a pink, black, or white freshwater pearl.
$200
Kathleen's designs are fresh, unique, and sometimes whimsical. She has a special talent for designing florals, and having the components cast in metal allows her to create flower petals, twigs, and vines as they appear in nature. Her design ideas and sense of style are the basis of her contemporary jewelry.

Bell Suite Silver & Pearl Necklace & Earrings
Pendant and earrings are cast and hand-fabricated from matte finished sterling silver and set with 6.5mm black freshwater pearls. Earrings have handmade sterling silver earwires. Pendant is suspended on a 16" long sterling silver chain.
$145 as shown
Kathleen takes inspiration from architecture, a love of history, and simple forms. When designing a piece, she combines these elements with visual balance and a use of positive and negative space. Her work is often made in limited editions and frequently features the rich colors of 18k gold, sterling silver, pearls, and semiprecious gemstones.

'Twig' Wedding Suite
Silver & Pearl Necklace & Earrings. Necklace and earrings cast and hand-fabricated from sterling silver and freshwater pearls. The earrings have sterling silver post backs.
$185 as shown
Lynagh begins her design process with large free-form sketches. Once she has narrowed the focus for an individual design, she begins to sculpt it in wax. She uses bench tools and hand files to create the model. The individual components of the model are cast in precious metals, then assembled and finished by hand.
Kathleen's Pod Line is based on organic forms and seed pods found throughout the Bay area. The Radial Line is based on textures and smooth forms in metal, and the KL Line consists of limited edition pieces, which integrate sculptural forms into the designs.
Designer Bio
A native of Philadelphia, Kathleen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design from Beaver College. Her second job as a graphic designer brought was with the Hillier Group, a highly respected architectural firm, where she was promoted to Senior Graphic Designer and Associate. While working for the Hillier group, she was selected to participate in a unique program in Switzerland sponsored by the Yale School of Design, where she studied identity, color theory, sculpture, typography, and photography. Since that time she has devoted all of her attention to jewelry design.
Although Kathleen has created jewelry since she was very young, she had no formal training until she attended the Studio Art Center International (SACI) in Florence, Italy, in the fall of 1990. She then continued her studies at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. After Moving to the San Francisco Bay area in the summer of 1991, she began to design and sell high-end custom made jewelry for Pave, a Bay area jewelry studio. Kathleen is presently based in the San Diego area.

All through the ages jewelry has been an ever-present element in our lives. It is a timeless art form that is worn to adorn and commemorate life. It is my pleasure to create beautiful designs that will become part of people's lives and continue these traditions.

I have not been keeping up with your blog like I normally do, but as another ecommerce jewelry seller, I feel compelled to comment on this one! I totally know what you mean by improvements not really being an improvement. There is always bugs! It seems like things get worse, sometimes much worse, before they get better. :)
And loosing employees! GEEESSSH! Do I know where you are coming from! I think this country is in real trouble with the next generations, they don't seem to want to work at all anymore, but oh they want to get paid!
Anyways, I still think we have the best (and one of the oldest) industry! And your jewelry is some of the most intricate and well designed I have seen! Thanks!

Hello. My name is Kendall, and I must interview someone for my 9th grade, high-school project. It's a career project used as a final exam, and a must pass grade. I decided to research jewelry designer as the career choice. I have 10 interview questions that I need answers to, so if someone can e-mail me answers, I would greatly appreciate it. Here are the questions:
1. What machines are in main use when creating the jewelry?
2. How ofen do you get paid? Is it a steady check or a buisness-dependent check.
3. How does the current economy effect this job?
4. Should you be an organized prson so you can arrange your jewelry in a reasonable fashion?
5. Can people have allergies to "real," jewelry?
6. Would learning different languages be a nice thing to do in school?
7. What normally takes longer, fixing the jewelry or making it?
8. Should you have a part-time job on the side with this job?
9. What kind of education would you suggest? A superb education? An average one?
10. Are salaries normally decent?
I hope you can respond by e-mailing my e-mail address, I'm desparate for these answers since I haven't had the best luck finding people who will e-mail me back. If you can, respond by a week's time. Thank You.
