Jewelry Designers
Katzeye Jewellery is the result of the collective creative input of three sisters, Diana Stevens, Kathleen Moon and Carolyn Martin, all with a passion for wire work and beading.

These beads have a base of ivory/pale avocado with amethyst and green abstract design.

Carolyn Martin lives in Central Queensland, Australia, and works full-time for a global Mining company. She discovered the joys of jewelry creation in December 2004 along with her sister Kathleen. The mainstay of her early designs were wire-worked and strung beaded pieces.

Honey Focal Bead by Carolyn Martin
This handmade glass focal bead has been made on a curved mandrel. It features an abstract blend of green and blue hues with ivory and topaz, and finished with cobalt blue end caps. The glass has a slightly iridescent finish when viewed in natural light.

In April 2005, Carolyn ventured into the world of flame working glass and started creating her own Art Glass (Lampwork) Beads. These miniature artworks can be found in many of the exclusive Katzeye Jewelry pieces made by Carolyn and her sisters. She also sells her beads as Focal beads and Sets on the internet under the label of Katzeye Kreations.

Currently her jewelry designs predominantly showcase her own handmade Art Glass Beads, Swarovski Crystals, Freshwater and Glass Pearls, Sterling Silver, Vermeil, and Rolled Gold wire and findings.

Carolyn's sisters also make beautiful bracelets and necklaces, like these:

Artist Statement
My name is Carolyn Martin, and I live in Central Queensland, Australia. I am a Self-representing Artist and have been creating Art Glass (Lampwork) Beads since April 2005. Most of my beads are either one of a kind creations or limited editions.

All my beads are individually handcrafted in my home studio and have been annealed in a digitally controlled kiln and thoroughly cleaned of bead release, so they are ready to use when you receive them.

How are Art Glass (Lampwork) beads made?
I predominantly use Italian Effetre (Moretti) and Vetrofond Glass rods, which are then heated over the flame of a gas torch until the glass is molten. Once the glass is heated sufficiently, it is then applied to a stainless steel mandrel (rod) of the desired size, and is kept constantly in motion in and around the flame. After shaping and adding the desired embellishments, the bead is held out further in the flame to cool slightly before placing it in a digitally controlled kiln for the annealing process.

Art Glass beads should be annealed to reduce any stresses that have built up in the glass during the flame working process. Annealing will ensure the bead has strength and durability for long lasting enjoyment by its owner. After the beads are kiln annealed, the bead holes are cleaned out of residual bead release (this is important as the clay based, bead release dust can be a health hazard) before being sold or used in our jewellery. As a quality control measure, all beads are checked for any imperfections such as cracks or chips, etc before sale.
