Born in South Africa to a jewelry making family, Philippa was naturally drawn to working with metal and gemstones. After graduating from Miami University with degrees in metal design and photography, Philippa moved to San Francisco to start her career with the help of her husband Brian. Philippa's daily walks along the coast of the Pacific Ocean with her husband, their dog Maggie, and their daughter Charlotte inspire much of her creativity.

Philippa moved to San Francisco in 1995 to start her career in jewelry design. She started by working for different designers to develop and hone her skills, and to learn how to run a small business. Philippa established her first studio in her home in 1996. She now works from a new space near South Park in San Francisco with an expansive studio and showroom.

From the clean blue stones in many of her pieces to the simple replication of a dragonfly on a necklace, her work stems from the nature around her. Yet, she incorporates a feeling of the urban, with lines and patterns that imitate architecture and design seen around the city.

Having started with a basic sterling silver and pearl design, she has expanded her line by integrating silver and gold with different colored stones, adding texture, shape, and hue to many of her designs. Philippa creates all the original pieces by carving in wax or fabricating in metal.

Using silver as her main medium, Philippa creates necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings that can be worn formally or informally, with an appeal to all ages. With over 200 specialty stores carrying her work, Philippa Roberts Jewelry is now sold throughout the US. Her largest customers include the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Sundance catalog. She has also established outlets in Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Philippa Roberts Jewelry has been selected for the 2008 Best of Oakland Award in the Jewelry Designers category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA). The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country.
